A New Era of Learning

Artificial intelligence is no longer a distant concept — it’s here, shaping how we work, create, and now, how students learn. While opinions on AI’s role in education vary, one Ohio school district is leaning in with purpose and clarity.

Fairview Park City Schools is taking bold steps to ensure its teachers and students are prepared for the future by embracing AI not as a replacement for human connection, but as a tool to unlock creativity, support personalized learning, and improve student success.

The Partnership: Training Educators to Lead the Way

This school year, Fairview Park City Schools launched a professional development initiative powered by AI Owl, funded through a $30,000 Ohio TechCred grant.

Thirty educators across the district participated in hands-on training, exploring AI platforms and practical classroom applications.

By the end of the program, each teacher earned an AI Certificate, marking a significant step toward making AI a meaningful and responsible part of their teaching. Superintendent Keith Ahearn emphasized the importance of this work:

“AI is here to stay. We have an obligation to make sure that we use the tools available to help improve student success — and to teach students how to use AI ethically and responsibly.”

From Theory to Practice

The training provided by AI Owl focused on practical, real-world integration of AI tools into classrooms.

  • Elementary school innovation: Teachers can quickly create differentiated learning materials tailored to a student’s reading level, helping struggling readers gain confidence and make progress faster.

  • High school engagement: English teacher Carli Morgan used AI-generated videos to streamline communication with parents and students, saving time while delivering information in a more engaging, visual way.

  • Teacher empowerment: With AI taking on time-consuming administrative tasks, educators can focus on what matters most — building meaningful relationships and inspiring curiosity in their students.

Elementary technology teacher Graham Codney shared his excitement:

“The AI Owl training was incredibly insightful. It highlighted practical, age-appropriate ways to integrate AI tools that enhance engagement and support differentiated learning.”

Why It Matters

While AI in education can be controversial, Ahearn likens this moment to when computers were first introduced to classrooms decades ago. The key difference? This time, schools are approaching the transition with greater intentionality and focus on ethical use.

By equipping teachers with both skills and frameworks, Fairview Park City Schools is ensuring that AI strengthens education rather than disrupts it.

Looking Ahead

This initiative reflects a growing movement across Ohio to prepare both educators and students for the AI-powered future of work and learning.
